Chevron and Eni Lead New Wave of Deals to Boost Venezuela Oil Output

Major Energy Companies Move to Expand Operations as Venezuela Seeks Production Revival. chevron and Eni are leading a new wave of energy agreements aimed at significantly increasing Venezuela’s oil production, as international companies return their focus to one of the world’s largest crude reserves.

The deals are part of a broader effort to attract foreign investment into Venezuela’s struggling oil industry, which has suffered for years from underinvestment, deteriorating infrastructure and political uncertainty. Venezuela’s current output is above 1 million barrels per day, but US officials believe production could more than double in the coming years.

Chevron Plans $7 Billion Investment

Chevron has announced plans to invest more than $7 billion in its Venezuelan joint ventures over the next five years.

The company aims to increase its Venezuelan production to approximately 600,000 barrels per day by 2031, more than doubling its current output. The expansion includes new operating areas in the country’s oil-rich Orinoco Belt.

The investment would represent one of the largest commitments by a major international oil company to Venezuela’s energy industry in years and could help restore production from fields that have suffered from limited investment.

Eni Targets Major Production Growth

Eni is also planning a significant expansion of its operations in Venezuela.

The Italian energy company is reportedly aiming to sharply increase production from its Venezuelan activities as part of the wider push to revive the country’s oil sector. The company’s longer-term ambitions could make it another major contributor to Venezuela’s expected production recovery.

Other international companies are also expected to pursue agreements as Venezuela attempts to create more attractive conditions for foreign investors.

Venezuela Seeks to Revive Oil Industry

Venezuela holds some of the world’s largest proven oil reserves, but its production has fallen dramatically from levels seen in previous decades.

Years of underinvestment, operational problems and international restrictions have weakened the country’s ability to fully exploit its vast oil resources. New agreements are expected to focus on repairing existing infrastructure, expanding production capacity and attracting billions of dollars in foreign investment.

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has said Venezuelan oil production could more than double over the next several years if investment plans move forward as expected.

New Deals Could Reshape Oil Exports

Higher production could significantly increase Venezuela’s role in global energy markets.

A revival in output would provide additional crude supplies to international buyers while potentially helping reduce pressure on global oil markets. However, analysts caution that rebuilding Venezuela’s oil industry will require substantial investment and could take years to achieve on a large scale.

The new agreements also reflect growing competition among international companies seeking access to Venezuela’s vast energy reserves.

Investment Push Faces Major Challenges

Despite renewed interest from major energy companies, significant challenges remain.

Venezuela’s oil infrastructure requires extensive repairs, while investors will continue to monitor political conditions, legal protections and the long-term stability of contracts.

The success of the latest agreements will depend on whether companies can quickly improve existing facilities and whether Venezuela can provide a stable environment for large-scale foreign investment.

A New Chapter for Venezuela’s Oil Industry

For now, Chevron and Eni’s expansion plans represent one of the clearest signs yet that international energy companies are preparing to increase their presence in Venezuela.

If the investment wave continues, Venezuela could see one of the biggest increases in oil production in its modern history. The country’s ability to turn its vast reserves into sustained production will now depend on how quickly the new agreements are implemented and whether additional international investors follow.
