NZD Exchange Rate: 0.570 USD and 0.802 AUD Explained

The NZD exchange rate remained around US$0.570 and A$0.802 on September 22, 2026, according to the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s daily exchange-rate data. The RBNZ reported an NZD/USD rate of 0.56995 and an NZD/AUD rate of 0.80210 for September 22.

Currency movements are important for New Zealand because the country has a highly trade-exposed economy.

NZD Exchange Rate on September 22

The Reserve Bank’s daily data showed the New Zealand dollar at approximately:

  • US$0.570 against the US dollar
  • A$0.802 against the Australian dollar

The RBNZ also reported a Trade Weighted Index of 64.47 for September 22.

The TWI measures the value of the New Zealand dollar against the currencies of major trading partners.

Why the NZD Matters for Exporters

The NZD exchange rate can influence the value of export earnings when overseas revenue is converted back into New Zealand dollars.

For example, exporters receiving US dollars may see different New Zealand-dollar revenues depending on currency movements.

A weaker NZD can increase the New Zealand-dollar value of overseas revenue, although the actual effect varies between companies.

Exporters also have costs that may be denominated in foreign currencies, so the impact is not always straightforward.

Impact on Importers

Importers face the opposite side of the currency equation.

New Zealand companies purchasing goods, equipment or energy from overseas may have to pay more in NZD terms when the New Zealand dollar weakens against the currency in which those purchases are priced.

This can influence business costs and, in some cases, consumer prices.

The relationship is particularly relevant for energy because international energy markets are often priced in US dollars.

NZD and Interest Rates

Interest-rate expectations are another important factor for currencies.

The RBNZ raised the Official Cash Rate to 2.75 percent in September 2026.

Expectations about future interest rates can influence currency markets because investors compare returns across countries.

However, the NZD exchange rate is influenced by many factors.

These include global risk sentiment, commodity prices, economic growth, central-bank policies and international capital flows.

NZD and Commodity Exports

New Zealand is a major exporter of agricultural products.

Dairy, meat, forestry and other commodities contribute significantly to export earnings.

Commodity prices and the exchange rate can therefore interact.

When export prices are strong, exporters can benefit from increased foreign revenue. Currency movements then determine how that revenue translates into NZD terms.

What Importers and Exporters Should Watch

Businesses exposed to foreign currencies need to monitor exchange-rate movements as part of financial planning.

Some companies use hedging strategies to manage currency risk.

For investors, currency movements can also affect the reported financial performance of companies with significant international operations.

The NZD exchange rate therefore matters beyond the foreign-exchange market itself.

Outlook for the New Zealand Dollar

The September 22 data show the NZD near US$0.57 and A$0.80.

Future movements will depend on domestic interest-rate expectations, economic growth, global markets and developments in commodity and energy prices.

For businesses and investors, monitoring the NZD remains important because currency movements can influence both export competitiveness and import costs.
